Secret Weapon: HAIR RESTORATION

Almost 40 percent of 35-year-old women are losing their hair, according to the Women's Institute for Fine and Thinning Hair. Ella Lindenbaum, a retired medical professor at the Technion Institute in Haifa, Israel, discovered that a serum she formulated for wounds also stopped hair fallout and promoted new growth. Osmotics adopted her technology for its Follicle Nutrient Serum (FNS), which goes on like a leave-in conditioner. Lindenbaum discovered that after two months, the serum stopped hair loss in 93 percent of the 48 participants who used it. Thirty percent experienced regrowth. Also, 66 percent had more hair after six months. Rogaine for Women reports that 40 percent of users had at least minimal regrowth after eight months. Rogaine is an FDA-approved drug, while Osmotics FNS, a cosmetic, hasn't been as rigorously tested, which may account for the disparity in success rates. Dermatologist Nia K. Terezakis says the serum "promising, but independent researchers need to conduct the exact same study [as in Israel] and get the exact same results [as Osmotics did] for me to feel confident of its success."

Bottom Line: In early tests, Osmotics FNS stopped hair loss and encouraged growth, but it's too soon to tell how effective it will be long-term.
