The tone and volume of the sound are controlled by simply rotating the "cap" and "collar" of the housing. This "white noise" sound effectively masks unwanted noises and creates a sense of calm, making it easier to concentrate, relax and/or sleep.

Marpac Sleep Mate and Sound Screen are identical except for the name. Sleep Mate applies to home use for sleep, relaxation or study. Used as Sound Screen for professional/office applications for masking conversation to help increase privacy and promote concentration within the office.

Uses

For home use, aid sleep by masking noises such as street noise, television & stereo, barking dogs, snoring spouse, appliance noise, tinnitus (ringing, buzzing in the ears), noisy neighbors, air traffic, or conversation.

For office use, it is useful in your office or study to help mask distracting noise or to provide conversational confidentiality.

SleepMate can also be used to add sound where it might otherwise be too quiet.

Very good!

We are very happy with this compact sound machine. The noise it makes is pleasantly "white," which doesn't disturb you while reading in bed and yet it provides enough cover for the little noises that can sound so loud at night. Except for dual speed, the volume produced can also be modulated by turning the top, making it louder or softer.

A excellent sleep machine

I've had trouble sleeping because I live in an apartment, and my up-floor neighbor (a very old lady) has impaired hearing problem. She likes to listen radio, watch TV with a very loud volume. There are also big bangs and booms on the floor. I don't want to bother her everytime. This Marpac machine is great help. It makes a very fan-like sound, but with no mechanical or cycling sounds, or rattling. This is just a constant whoosh. It has two speeds and you can change the sound of the whoosh by changing the position of the vent holes on the device. It's easy to use, and makes me sleep better.
