The dark or black circles under or around the eyes can be caused by many different factors, including aging, inheritance, or suffering from fatigue. It does not indicate illness or toxicity in the body.

HEREDITY - The dark circles under the eyes are usually an inherited trait. As the skin under the eye is very thin,  it can produce a bluish tint when blood passes through the large veins close to the surface of the skin. The more transparent your skin, the darker the circles appear.

AGE - As you tack on the years, the skin covering your eyelids thins out, which may cause the blood vessels to become more apparent, giving your lower eyelids a darker appearance. If you have a propensity to have dark circles under you eyes, as you grow older, they are likely to become more noticeable and permanent. Excess folds of skin under the eyes will also make dark circles more pronounced.

FATIGUE - A lack of sleep or excessive tiredness can cause paleness of the skin, which again allows the blood underneath the skin to become more visible and appear more blue or darker.

EXPOSURE TO THE SUN - Exposure to the sun increases the natural pigmentation of the skin and draws that pigmentation to the surface. It can cause a higher-than-normal level of skin pigmentation (melanin) under the eyes.

POOR CIRCULATION - The poor blood circulation under the eye is believed a major reason for dark circles and puffiness.
